Digital Spring stärker cirkus- och dansföretags internationella konkurrenskraft

Digital Spring är ett treårigt utvecklingsprojekt som ska stärka små och medelstora företag inom cirkus och dans genom digitalisering, affärsutveckling och internationalisering. Projektet har beviljats stöd från Europeiska regionala utvecklingsfonden via Tillväxtverket och pågår under åren 2026-2028.

Digital Spring riktar sig till konstnärsdrivna företag i Region Stockholm med hög konstnärlig kompetens, stark internationell närvaro och stor utvecklingspotential. Många dans- och cirkusorganisationer saknar idag affärsmässiga verktyg och den digitala infrastruktur som krävs för att bygga hållbara och växande verksamheter över tid. Genom Digital Spring får organisationerna riktat stöd som stärker deras digitala kompetens, affärsmässighet och internationella konkurrenskraft.

– Dans- och cirkusföretag är redan internationella till sin natur, men de ekonomiska förutsättningarna är ofta mycket sköra. Digital Spring handlar om att bygga kapacitet, struktur och infrastruktur så att företagen kan arbeta mer hållbart, säger Sara de Vylder, projektledare och representant för Cirkuscentrum.

Två parallella spår: kompetens och infrastruktur

Projektet består av två sammanflätade delar:

Kompetensutveckling för företag, genom utbildningar, workshops och rådgivning inom bland annat affärsmodeller, produktion, kommunikation, juridik och internationalisering. Insatserna utformas i dialog med målgruppen och bygger på praktiska behov hos företagare inom kulturella och kreativa näringar (KKN).
Utveckling av den digitala plattformen CloudySky, som ska fungera som en gemensam digital infrastruktur för sektorn. Plattformen utvecklas till att vara både community-kanal och marknadsplats och testas tillsammans med företag som deltar i projektet.

Den tekniska FoU-delen var avgörande för att projektet beviljades EU-stöd, då den bidrar till innovation och nya affärsmöjligheter inom KKN.

Fokus på små företag och jämställd tillväxt

Målgruppen för Digital Spring består till stor del av kvinnliga företagare och företag med internationell bakgrund. Projektet bidrar till jämställd tillväxt och ökad inkludering i en sektor som annars har begränsad tillgång till näringspolitiska utvecklingsmedel.
Under projektets gång kommer medlemmar i Cirkuscentrum och Danscentrum att bjudas in att delta i referensgrupper, utbildningar och tester av plattformen. Open calls för medverkan lanseras successivt under våren.

– Det här är inte ett projekt som byggs ovanifrån. Det utvecklas tillsammans med företagen i sektorn, och ambitionen är att de strukturer vi skapar ska leva vidare efter projekttidens slut, säger Amy Fee, Danscentrum Sverige.

Om projektet

Digital Spring drivs av Cirkuscentrum i samarbete med Danscentrum Sverige och A Radar Styled Novel/Saloranta & de Vylder. Projektet finansieras av Europeiska regionala utvecklingsfonden via Tillväxtverket samt egenfinansiering från projektparterna. Digital Spring är också ett pilotprojekt som undersöker hur ett informations- och exportkontor för dans och cirkus kan utformas för att stärka sektorns utveckling och internationella möjligheter. Projektet ska ge viktig kunskap om hur ett sådant stöd kan struktureras utifrån branschens behov.

Digital Spring strengthens the international competitiveness of circus and dance companies

Digital Spring is a three-year development project designed to strengthen small and medium-sized companies in circus and dance through digitalisation, business development and internationalisation. The project has been granted support from the European Regional Development Fund through the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth and will run from 2026 to 2028.

Digital Spring is aimed at artist-led companies in the Stockholm region with a high level of artistic expertise, a strong international presence and significant growth potential. Today, many dance and circus organisations lack the business tools and digital infrastructure needed to build sustainable and growing operations over time. Through Digital Spring, participating organisations will receive targeted support to strengthen their digital capacity, business skills and international competitiveness.

– “Dance and circus companies are already international by nature, but their financial conditions are often very fragile. Digital Spring is about building capacity, structure and infrastructure so that these companies can work more sustainably,” says Sara de Vylder, Project Manager and representative of Cirkuscentrum.

Two parallel tracks: Skills and infrastructure

The project consists of two interlinked components:

Capacity-building for companies, through training programmes, workshops and advisory support in areas including business models, production, communication, legal matters and internationalisation. These initiatives are designed in dialogue with the target group and are based on the practical needs of entrepreneurs within the cultural and creative sectors.
Development of the digital platform CloudySky, which will function as a shared digital infrastructure for the sector. The platform is being developed as both a community channel and a marketplace, and will be tested together with companies participating in the project.

The technical R&D component was a decisive factor in securing EU funding, as it contributes to innovation and creates new business opportunities within the cultural and creative sectors.

A focus on small businesses and gender-equal growth

The target group for Digital Spring consists largely of women entrepreneurs and companies with international backgrounds. The project contributes to gender-equal growth and increased inclusion in a sector that otherwise has limited access to business development funding.

Throughout the project period, members of Cirkuscentrum and Danscentrum will be invited to participate in reference groups, training activities and platform testing. Open calls for participation will be launched gradually during the spring.

– This is not a top-down project. It is being developed together with the companies in the sector, and the ambition is for the structures we create to continue beyond the end of the project period,” says Amy Fee, Danscentrum Sverige.

About the project

Digital Spring is led by Cirkuscentrum in collaboration with Danscentrum Sverige and A Radar Styled Novel/Saloranta & de Vylder. The project is financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth, together with co-financing from the project partners. Digital Spring also serves as a pilot project exploring how an information and export office for dance and circus could be designed to strengthen the sector’s development and international opportunities. The project will generate important knowledge about how such support can be structured based on the needs of the field.
